This collective has been created from one of those many situations of labour precarity on which Barcelona's culture life is now-a-days based. Those situations where creation, treatment and transmission of information become a main source of production and power.(1)

I don't believe much in a virtual world without a significant counterpart in the physical world, that is, the two "worlds" are less separate entities as they are two aspects of a unified whole. Until molecular switching nano-computers run on naturally regenerating biomass energy, we're going to have to face the dependency of cyberspace on the existing industrial age power grids. When the power goes out and the batteries run low it's not long before you are sharing stories and songs around the fire. Because of the aging soviet infrastructure, this happens often enough in rural Estonia to keep you grounded in the physical world, which brings me back to my original point.

Infoespai: Putting Theory into Practice

The idea of Infoespai was born in order to have a sustainable base for the co-ordination of resources for social movements. This project aimed to become a venue where a desired society could be invented and reinvented on the way, offering real alternatives, experimented through independent and sustainable projects to create and share resources. The project started in March 2003. It was consolidated when the venue was inaugurated in November 2003.

To understand what the Cyber*Forat is, we have to explain a bit about the neighbourhood of Santa Catalina, located in the historical center of Barcelona, Spain. Unlike many other European cities, Barcelona’s downtown still has some poor neighborhoods, where lack of infrastructures and social services is counterbalanced by a special richness in characters and projects. Santa Catalina is one such part of the town, affected by a massive “renewal plan” by the city council, which is currently responsible for tearing down almost 70% of this medieval puzzle of small streets.

By means of real facts and practical explorations Rotor is in the process of constant self-definition.
It becomes the dynamic part of an engine made up of people from different ambits, working together and sharing their knowledge. In Rotor there’s always the chance to play decoding the chains of information and creating a new system of signs and valuation having to do with both, personal conditions and locations. Rotor connects up and crosses, goes up and down. We learn from the game the role we are playing and the board where we are located. The movement keeps us awake and it makes us activate a closer and more vital relationship not only with the environment but also with the emotions players feel when enjoying it. It offers the possibility to take part in the process of creating the rules of the game.

City Mine(d) is a production house for urban interventions, committed to the creation of cutting edge public artwork, the re-appropriation of public space and the development of new forms of urban citizenship. The initially Belgian NGO now has agencies in Brussels, Barcelona and London.

The objectives of the association are the realization and initiation of an urban movement, the realization and stimulation of urban projects, the organization and support enabling these initiatives, and the stimulation of a critical reflection with respect to the city.

Poble Nou - Barcelona Mercalab - 2004, time to reform!

The property speculators are attacking again !

Between the hooligan Barcelona of the centre & the fashion Barcelona of Diagonal Mar in Poble Nou are 5 strategically situated hectares. On the 29th of May 2004, a group of people decided to use (some people say squat) some land abandoned by the Barcelona City Council. They only realised its strategic importance when a group of riot police arrived to stop 40 people cleaning an open piece of land. We understood that we had put our finger on a sensitive spot.
