[image:189,right] After four years of struggle with the Dutch ministry of culture De Nieuwe Omroep – The New Broadcasting Network – has finally succeeded. The network has been granted to make 100 hours of television and 450 hours of radio in 2005 on one of the national channels. In the last few years it has been publishing refreshing video reports, articles and weblogs about human rights, environmental issues and global proportions. Focussed on solutions instead of problems, De Nieuwe Omroep strives for practical idealism. “There are so many great initiatives out there”.

Invert and subvert information control

We are ctrl-i, a group of people with a clear intention: inform. This collective has been created from one of those many situations of labour precarity on which Barcelona's culture life is now-a-days based. Those situations where creation, treatment and transmission of information become a main source of production and power.(1)

To understand what the Cyber*Forat is, we have to explain a bit about the neighbourhood of Santa Catalina, located in the historical center of Barcelona, Spain. Unlike many other European cities, Barcelona’s downtown still has some poor neighborhoods, where lack of infrastructures and social services is counterbalanced by a special richness in characters and projects. Santa Catalina is one such part of the town, affected by a massive “renewal plan” by the city council, which is currently responsible for tearing down almost 70% of this medieval puzzle of small streets.
